M:. P:. Bro. Rev. Canon Richard Tydeman 33° passes on
The Grand Secretary General advises that M:. P:. Bro. Reverend Canon Richard Tydeman 33°, Past Sovereign Grand Commander, died peacefully at Cornwallis Court on Friday, 1 April 2011 after a long illness
Our Inspector General, in conveying condolences on our behalf, shared the following story.
We were fortunate to have been able to welcome him to Jamaica on a number of occasions and we fondly remember his visits.
Humility and friendship were his watchwords. On one occasion, he accompanied my wife and myself to a rather full 7:30am Eucharist at The Saint Andrew Parish Church here in Kingston. Upon realising that the then Rector, Canon (later Bishop) Herman Spence, was without a Curate, he immediately entered the vestry and persuaded the Rector to provide him with the appropriate vestments so that he could assist with the service. This having been done, he clothed himself and, the rest, as they say, is (very memorable) history. A wonderful example, indeed, for us to emulate.
We join in giving God thanks for a wonderful life, usefully spent.
